Frequently asked questions

Is Whenbus available to download yet?

Yes. Whenbus is free on the App Store for iPhone (iOS 18.6 or later) at apps.apple.com/sg/app/id6478116422. The bus stop pages on this website also work without the app: every Singapore bus stop has a page with live arrival times, the buses that call there, where each one goes next, and the first and last bus.

Where does Whenbus get its bus arrival times?

Whenbus reads live arrival times from LTA DataMall, the Land Transport Authority's official public data service. The times are the same ones LTA publishes to the bus stop display panels, so a countdown in the app and a countdown on the pole come from one source.

Do I need to type a bus stop code into Whenbus?

Usually not. Whenbus opens on a map of where you are and lists the stops in view, so the stop you are standing at is normally on the first card. To reach a stop elsewhere on the island, search by name, code, or road in the nearby sheet, or pan the map.

What does Arr mean in a bus arrival time?

Arr means the bus is arriving now and is at or approaching the stop, rather than some number of minutes away. Whenbus prints it as a word instead of a number because it is not a quantity you can count down.

What does the slash mean in Singapore bus arrival times?

A slash means no arrival time is being reported for that slot. It usually means the service has finished for the night, is not running at that hour, or the operator is not currently reporting a position for the next bus.

How do live bus countdowns on the Lock Screen work?

Open a stop, tap Live, pick the buses you want and start. Whenbus puts one Live Activity for that stop on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, counting down every bus you picked. It refreshes by push, so the app does not need to stay open, and it ends on its own once the buses have gone. To stop it early, tap Stop in the app or swipe the banner away.

Does Whenbus have a Home Screen widget?

Yes. The Bus stop widget (Whenbus Pro) shows every bus at a stop you choose with its next arrival times, and a Live button that starts the Lock Screen countdown without opening the app. Whenbus Pro also adds an Apple Watch app and a Control Center and Action Button control that starts Live in one press.

Does Whenbus track my location?

Your location is used on your iPhone to sort the stops around you and is not sent to us. There are no accounts and no login, so nothing you do in the app is tied to an identity. The free tier shows ads, and the partner that serves them receives standard device information, but never your location or the stops you look at.

Does Whenbus show MRT stations?

Whenbus shows the MRT and LRT stations at a bus stop as line-coloured code plates in the colours LTA prints on its own signs, so an EW21 plate on a stop card is the same green you are looking for on the platform. It shows the connection; it does not show train times.

Is Whenbus free?

Whenbus is free to download and use, with no account. The free plan includes live arrival times for every stop, the map and search, ways there by bus and MRT, and Lock Screen and Dynamic Island countdowns for up to 3 buses per stop, with ads. Whenbus Pro is an optional subscription with a 7-day free trial: no ads, up to 6 buses per stop, the Bus stop widget, the Apple Watch app and one-press start.

Is Whenbus available on Android?

No, and there is no Android version planned. Whenbus is an iPhone app, and its signature feature - Lock Screen Live Activities, with the countdown in the Dynamic Island - is built on iOS system surfaces that have no direct Android equivalent.
